Les monnaies trouvees par l’ephore G. Dontas dans la fouille du terrain Angelopoulos
(au sud de l’Acropole) sont surtout des pieces en bronze. On a trouve une
seule monnaie d’argent, un denier de Faustine Iere, du type R.I.C. no 350a. Parmi
les 55 monnaies de bronze il faut signaler :
1) 16 pieces d’Athenes, dont 4 de l’epoque imperiale (Svoronos, pi. 22 nos
53-58, pi. 23 no 50, pi. 81 nos 17-52, pi. 71 nos 17-18, pi. 79, pi. 82, pi.83, pi. 88
no 48, pi. 91 no 30).
2) une piece de Corinthe du type, Eduards, Corinth VI, no 11.
3) 2 antoniniennes romaines, une d’Aurelien (R.I.C. no 135) et une de Probus
(R.I.C. no 911).
4) 5 pieces de petit bronze romaines : a) Constantin II (M. Thompson, The
Athenian Agora vol. II, Coins, no 999, b) Constance Galle (M. Thompson, l.c. no
1211), c) Valentinien II (R.I.C. no 60a).
5) 5 pieces byzantines: a) I piece de Constant II, du type B.M.C. no 202, b) I
piece de Nicephore III Botaniate, du type signe et c) 3 pieces du type anonyme
(M. Thompson, l.c. types A-2, H ou I et J).
Le reste des monnaies est plutot en mauvais etat et on n’a pas pu l’identifier
exactement. Parmi les monnaies on a trouve aussi un poids byzantin d’assez bonne
conservation.
