Επιτομή
An inscription carved on a slab of schist, containing the purchase of a house,
was found in Torone of Chalkidiki in the year 1964. It is one of the most typical
of that kind. It contains the invocation, the title, the date, the main text, the location
of the house, the price, the guarantors and the witnesses.
The form of the letters, certain grammatical types and mainly the resemblance
to the inscriptions from Olynthus related to the purchase of houses, place this
inscription chronologically to the first decades of the fourth century.
This inscription has many similarities to the same inscriptions from Olynthus
and other places from Chalkidiki while it has basic differences with inscriptions
from other places especially from Amphipolis. The price of the house is given with
symbols some of which are found only at Chalkidiki, as for instance the symbol 8.
