Résumé
In an article published in 1953 (A M 69-70 p. 67) S. Papaspyridi-Karousou
recognises the type of Hephaistos by Alkamenes in a relief of a terracotta lamp
in Empedokles Collection in the Nat. Museum of Athens. This Hephaistos was a cult
statue in the temple, near the Athenian Agora.
Last year a marble statue of the same type was found in the Nat. Museum. It
is a lifesize copy of Hadrianean date.
The pose and rendering of drapepy have many similarities with other works,
which are supposed to be Alkamenean ones, especially the type of Athena Cherchel.
Many archaeologists believe that this is the type of Athena Hephaisteia, the other
cult statue in the same temple.
