The fire retardancy of wood impregnated with a mixture of ammonium dihydrogen phosphate and ammonium sulfate recovered from exhausted fire extinguishing powder was assessed. Impregnated specimens recorded a 14.3% total weight loss due to combustion, as opposed to 93.8% for the untreated ones. Treated specimens also showed a significantly lower burning time and maximum burning rate as well as higher sustainable ignition time than untreated ones. © 2019, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.en
