Nanocarriers for effective drug delivery
Επιτομή
The development of biocompatible nanoformulations, as carriers of drugs or compounds with pharmacological interest, is a novel technology, the use of which provides a variety of applications. In particular the use of formulations for enhanced delivery, based on nanotechnology, is an extremely important field. During the last decades, drug delivery systems including nanodispersions such as microemulsions and nanoemulsions, Pickering emulsions, lipid nanocarriers, liposomes, niosomes, and dendrimers are at the center of interest of many research groups. Potential advantages of improved drug delivery include reduction of drug's side effects and continuous maintenance of drug levels in the targeted tissue. Additionally, protection of the drugs from chemical or metabolic alterations, throughout their route toward the target cell and increased bioavailability, is of high importance. Delivery systems are developed to be applied in different tissues via mechanisms underlying oral route; transdermal route; and nasal, topical, or parenteral route. © 2020 Elsevier Inc.
