Living conditions assessment in the Wilaya of Setif (Algeria) municipalities implementing multi-criteria analysis and GIS

Abstract

Over the last years, advanced technological tools and innovative operational research methods have become indispensable in the field of decision-making approaches for sustainable development. Moreover, in the domain of spatial planning, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) have integrated new tools for applying multi-criteria analysis. These tools can play a vital role, helping decision making in less developed areas at local level. Therefore, the aim of this work is to underline the benefits of applying multi-criteria analysis in a GIS environment in order to evaluate the degree of development and improvement of living conditions in the Wilaya of Sétif municipalities. The results obtained will constitute the main elements of decision making for better management of public investment programmes and local development policies in order to ensure an equitable and sustainable territorial development. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature B.V.
