Through the 12 texts that shape this book, the impact on children’s lives of the last economic crisis in four Southern European countries (Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain) has been observed. Looking at the results, the selection of relevant topics addressed (family changes and forms of living, poverty versus well-being and children in migration) has confirmed a common feature shared by all four countries – that is, the weakness of the social position of children in the face of the great problems currently occurring in these societies. At the same time, through the application of different research methods, the way the children’s agency emerges to confront these problems was explored. In summary, the approach used in this book offers a sample of the usefulness of applying a sociological view on childhoods that move in a world dominated by adults to better understand their particular position in that world. © Lourdes Gaitán, Yannis Pechtelidis, Catarina Tomás and Natália Fernandes 2020.
