Resumen
Direct ethanol fuel cells (DEFCs) belong to the family of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), in which ethanol is directly used as the fuel. In the present work, the main aspects related to DEFCs such as electrocatalysts, membrane electrode assembly (MEA) preparation and their corresponding effects on the total cell performance are summarized and discussed. Furthermore, the issues about the disadvantages such as ethanol crossover and the electrolyte membrane's thermal and mechanical stability, as well as the challenges for DEFC's rapid development and commercialization are addressed. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. Understanding the electrocatalytic activity of PtxSny in direct ethanol fuel cells
Wang, Y.; Song, S.; Andreadis, G.; Liu, H.; Tsiakaras, P. (2011)In the present work, the activity of PtxSny/C catalysts towards ethanol, acetaldehyde and acetic acid electrooxidation reactions is investigated for each one separately by means of cyclic voltammetry. To this purpose, a ... -
Two-step sequence for synthesis of efficient PtSn@Rh/C catalyst for oxidizing ethanol and intermediate products
Song, S.; He, C.; Liu, J.; Wang, Y.; Brouzgou, A.; Tsiakaras, P. (2012)PtSn@Rh/C-HT catalysts were designed and synthesized by a two-step sequence synthesis: Rh was firstly deposited on the carbon support and then PtSn through microwave assisted polyol method, followed by the heat treatment ... -
Study of the operational parameters effect on a direct ethanol PEM fuel cell performance by the aid on a mathematical model
Andreadis, G.; Tsiakaras, P. (2011)In the present work, a model-based parametric analysis of the performance of a direct ethanol polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (DE-PEMFC) is conducted with the purpose to investigate the effect of several parameters ...
