Résumé
Sanitary landfill remains an attractive disposal route for household, commercial and industrial waste, as it is more economical than alternative solutions. The landfill biodegradation processes are complex, including many factors that control the progression of waste mass to final stage. This paper examines several geotechnical parameters in landfill emissions, as a result of change in waste composition and management. The purpose of the research is to investigate and estimate the design and treatment of different solid waste properties in different landfill geotechnical behavior. Projections are made for landfill settlements in relation to different landfill mass's geotechnical properties. Also projections of landfill emissions' risk are made for several Greek sites. In the end, SIMGASRISK risk assessment model is applied to heat transfer in landfill mass taking into account the particular geotechnical parameters of waste materials. © 2007 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
