Applying pressure management to reduce water losses in two greek cities' WDSs: Expectations, problems, results and revisions

Abstract
An overall pressure management project applied in two (Kos and Kozani) different water distribution systems in Greece is presented. The two Water Utilities developed a pressure management strategy. In both cases, Watergems V8i software was used to simulate the networks' hydraulic operation. The reduction of pressure resulted to a reduced SIV. The initial estimation of this reduction was based on the PDD function of the software. Kozani's Water Utility placed two PRVs in two pilot areas and the water savings were far bigger (up to 60%) than expected (25%), resulting in a revised operation of the model's PDD function. © 2014 The Authors.
