Abstract
L'auteur rapporte que Dimitsana, la petite ville du Peloponnese, ayant succede a la ville arcadienne de Teuthis, tombee en decadence,
est mentionnde pour la premiere fois en 966 dans une bulle du patriarche
Polyeucte. Argyrocastro est cite, avant la fin du XVe siecle,
parmi les possessions veuitiennes de la periode qui suivit la prise de
Constantinople. Aux noms de Dimitsana et d’Argyrocastro un archeveche
est signale pendant la periode de la domination turque qui a
son origine avant la fin du XVIe siecle, et qui, a plusieurs reprises,
fut reuni a la metropole de L,acedemone et en fut souvent detache
jusqu’a la premiere annee de l’insurrection grecque, date de la mort
dans la prison de Tripolis—ou il etait enferme avec les notables et les
prelats du Peloponnese — du dernier archeveque Philotheos, un des
premiers martyrs de la patrie hellenique. II est aussi question dans
cette etude des archeveques des XVIIIe et XIXe siecles, ainsi
que des eveques qui, a pres Pindependance de la Grece, occuperent le
poste de Parcheveche susmentionne qui fut transforme en eveche de
Gortyne, puis en metropole de Gortyne et de Megalopolis.
