Abstract
Cette etude est divisee en deux parties.
Dans la premiere (pp. 231 - 275 ), l’auteur publie une liste de documents
(environ soixante), venitiens pour la plupart, datant du XVIe
au XVIIIe siecle et concernant la noble famille Chortatzis, une des
plus importantes de Pile de Crete, et qui a joue un role considerable
dans Phistoire politique et litteraire, a partir de Pepoque byzantine jusqu’a
la fin du siecle dernier. Cette liste avait ete dressee par le dernier
possesseur des ces documents, Germain Antoniadis (f 1924), archimandrite
a Bournova (pres de Smyrne), a Pepoque ou il avait essaye
(1902) de les vendre a PEtat Autonome de Crete. Malgre ses
imperfections, la liste constitue aujourd’hui, apres la disparition de ces
pieces, une source unique et importante, fournissant nombre de renseignements
historiques: c’est pour cette raison que Pauteur lui consacre
un long et minutieux commentaire. II commente aussi un document
publie en 1901 par J. W. Whittall, possesseur d’un second recueil,
egalement disparu ou du moins introuvable, des documents de la meme
famille.
Dans la seconde partie (pp, 275-298), Pauteur, a Paide des nouveaux
renseignements fournis par la liste, mais aussi d’apres d’autres
sources dispersees, dresse: 1) une liste de tous les membres connus de
la famille Chortatzis en Crete, du Xlle au XVIIIe siecle; 2) un tableau genealogique des nobles Chortatzis, en Crete et a Smyrne, du
XVIe au XIXe siecle; et 3) une liste d’autres Chortatzis de Smyrne
(XVIII -XIXe siecle).
L’etude comporte aussi deux arbres genealogiques et a la fin
un index onomastique.
