dc.description.abstractMonitoring the state of communications in a distributed multilayer network with differing node capabilities requires the maintenance of a backbone which is a connected edge dominating set. In this letter, we present distributed algorithms that can efficiently create such multilayer resilient connected edge-dominating sets. After establishing the complexity of the problem and our proposed heuristics, we experimentally compare their performance while varying multiple characteristics of the underlying networks. © 2017 IEEE.en
