dc.description.abstract | The robust and reliability-based topology optimization of wing bodies with uncertain loading parameters is presented in this paper. The structural analysis for the computation of displacements and stresses within the wing body is based on a finite volume OpenFOAM solver. The topology optimization is based on the SIMP algorithm, including a filtering procedure by solving the Helmholtz equation and applied to solve the minimum compliance problem in a wing in order to compute the optimal distribution of material within the wing body that maximizes its stiffness constrained by a user defined volume. The uncertainties in loading parameters are taken into account by minimizing the mean value and standard deviation of the compliance with respect to these uncertainties, using grid-based statistical moment methods. The probability the compliance value exceeds a certain value is also minimized using the FORM methodology. © 2015, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA.
