Though state of the art visual communication and collaboration technology is considered mature, it has not yet been widely integrated into in-company educational settings, e.g. mechanical industry and welding practises. This paper discusses factors affecting pedagogical inclusion and deployment of coordinated use of industrial high quality video streaming or DVD in training of welders. It describes the structure of a new course targeting welding of stainless steel according to the harmonized international guidelines in 36 European countries. The adaptation to activity-based training which follows the production workflow is pointed out by using an extended blended learning approach. The educational video content is organised into 7 different classes that may be used within different training scenarios. The combination of extended blended learning and activity-based training following the production workflow has a scope far beyond welding and may be used in many kinds of skills upgrading processes in industrial sectors.en
