Resumen
Generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) is a severe type of psoriasis accompanied by systemic and often life-threatening manifestations. The efficacy of the interleukin (IL)-1 antagonist anakinra in cases of GPP underscores the role of IL-1 in disease pathogenesis. We present a case of a middle-aged man who developed an abrupt and severe form of GPP with severe eosinophilia and cholestatic hepatitis. The patient received salvage treatment with a combination of glucocorticoids, hydroxyurea and imatinib, while administration of the IL-1 inhibitor anakinra resulted in remission of hepatitis and a significant skin improvement. However, due to persistent hypersensitivity skin reactions, anakinra was withdrawn and replaced with the anti-IL-1β antagonist canakinumab. As a result of canakinumab, the patient's skin completely cleared, while no systemic manifestations recurred. After 1 year of continuous canakinumab therapy, the patient remained virtually free of symptoms, while the drug was well tolerated. © 2016 British Association of Dermatologists

(2017)Our aim was to study CD19(+)CD27(+)CD24(high) memory and CD19(+)CD24(high)CD38(high) transitional and IL-10 + Breg cells, known to inhibit Th1 and Th17 cells in experimental arthritis, in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and ... -
Are psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis the same disease? The IL-23/IL-17 axis data
Sakkas L.I., Bogdanos D.P. (2017)Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a psoriasis (Ps)-associated inflammatory joint disease that affects peripheral joints, entheses, spine, and eyes. PsA and Ps are likely to be the same disease. PsA develops in nearly 70% of ... -
Apremilast increases IL-10-producing regulatory B cells and decreases proinflammatory T cells and innate cells in psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis
Mavropoulos A., Zafiriou E., Simopoulou T., Brotis A.G., Liaskos C., Roussaki-Schulze A., Katsiari C.G., Bogdanos D.P., Sakkas L.I. (2019)Objectives: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and psoriasis are immune-mediated inflammatory diseases sharing common immunological mechanisms. Regulatory B cells (Breg cells) producing IL-10 (B10 cells), a critical anti-inflammatory ...
