Abstract

The title of current diploma thesis is: Mapping of Ruggerini RF91 engine and measurement of the characteristics of particulate filter loading-regeneration equipped on engine The target of this project is: The construction of engine s test bench, in order to measure the engine characteristics in several loadings The study and presentation of the engine operation, with the aid of engine maps The check of the experimental layout and further improvements on it The study of small-scale particulate filter behavior equipped on engine The construction of a systematic approach for data acquisition and further processing. Chapter one presents a general discussion on diesel engine, on diesel emissions and emissions legislation. In addition a short presentation of particulate filters, their operation and the regeneration process is made. Chapter two presents the experimental layout and descriptions of the experiments that took place. Chapter three presents the works made on the experimental layout, further improvements on it and the experimental procedure. Chapter four includes the literature equations used for non-measured data calculations. Chapter five presents the experimental results: the operation maps of the engine, Wilans line methodology for the prediction of friction losses and measurements of pressure drop and temperature across the filter. Chapter six is a discussion for the total conclusions of the current thesis, as well as several proposals for the improvement of experimental layout.
