Τα αντιγόνα καρκίνου/ όρχεων (CT antigens) αποτελούν μια κατηγορία
ογκογόνων δεικτών των οποίων η φυσιολογική έκφραση περιορίζεται στους άρχεις και
η έκφρασή τους σχετίζεται με τι]ν πρόοδο του όγκου. Μέχρι σήμερα έχουν ανιχνευθεί
περίπου είκοσι CT αντιγόνα, με το NY-ESO-1 να αποτελεί ένα από τα πιο ανοσογόνα.
Ένα παρόμοιο γονίδιο έχει απομονωθεί από το ζυμομύκητα Saccharomyces cerevisiae,
στο οποίο έχει αποδοθεί το όνομα PCC1 (Polarized growth Chromatin-associated
Controller 1) και το οποίο ενδέχεται να προσφέρει σημαντικές πληροφορίες για το
ρόλο του NY-ESO-1 παράγοντα. Ο PCC1 παράγοντας δρα ως σύμπλοκο (PCC
complex) με τρεις πρωτεΐνες, τις Pcc2p, Pcc3p και Bud32p. Στόχος της ερευνητικής
προσπάθειας αποτέλεσε η ταυτοποίηση πρωτεϊνών-στόχων του PCC συμπλόκου, με
κύριο μέλημα την ανεύρεση αρνητικά επικρατών αλληλόμορφων του PCC2 γονιδίου.
Παράλληλα, διαπιστώθηκε η in vivo αλληλεπίδραση του Peel παράγοντα με την
ακετυλοτρανσφεράση, Esalp. Τέλος, μέσω πειραμάτων ανοσοκαθίζησης της
χρωματίνης, επιβεβαιώθηκε ότι η Sir2p πρωτεΐνη προσδένεται στις rDNA και τις
τελομερικές περιοχές του γονιδιώματος του ζυμομύμητα Saccharomyces cerevisiae,
ενώ σε αντίθεση με τη Pcclp, δεν προσδένεται στο GAL1 γονίδιο.
