Chapter 9: The Comet Assay: Clinical Applications

Abstract

The single-cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE) or Comet assay is a technique widely employed in environmental and radiation toxicology as well as in cancer research with the aim of assessing DNA damage and repair by measuring DNA strand breaks. In the present review we outline the clinical applications of the Comet assay. In particular, we aim to highlight the importance of the technique in clinical medicine. © 2017 The Royal Society of Chemistry.
