GIS applications in costal transport: The Co.Tr.I.S case and its contribution towards the islands sustainable smartification

Abstract

Coastal Transport Integrated System (Co.Tr.I.S) is an under development integrated spatial information system for the optimal design of coastal transport lines. This fundamental and applied research project was co-financed from the European Union (EU) and the Greek government. We summarily present the system developed components (system’s functions, spatial databases, thematic maps, statistics, coastal line optimization and other software modules) and the future research perspectives. Finally, we underline the Co.Tr.I.S use of ICT and its contribution to KET (Key Enabling Technologies) towards the Greek islands sustainable smartification. © Springer International Publishing AG, part of Springer Nature 2018.
