Von den Griechenlandreisenden hat zuerst Cyriacus von Ancona das choragische
Denkmal des Lysikrates aufgenommen (Taf. 57a). Diese Aufnahmeist mehr
eine fliichtige Skizze im Gegensatz zu Wheler, der 1675, also zwei Jahrhunderte
spater, das Denkmal fiir die Illustrierung seines Buches aufnahm. Auf dem Bilde
Whelers (Taf. 57 β) entspricht das Monument mehrseinem mittelalterlichen Namen,
«Laterne des Demosthenes», als seiner eigentlichen Form. Ein Jahrhundert spater
zeichnete Pococke das Lysikratesdenkmal im Sinne der topographisch-dekorativen
AuffassungdesBarock (Taf. 58a). Dazu gehoren Orientierungszeichen, Grundrisse
und Schnitte. Bei der Dachpartiejedochverfallterinperspektivische Kuriositaten.
Von den bahnbrechenden Reisenden des Klassizismus Stuart und Revett haben
wir das erste wirklich «objektiv»gesehene Bild des Denkmals (T af. 59 β). Es wird
topographisch-landschaftlich in seinem damaligen Zustand erfasst; das Monument
war seit 1669 in das Capuzinnerkloster eingemauert. Klar umrissene Zeichnung
und schon aufgebaute Komposition geben uns ein Bild, das die erste eigentlich
kiinstlerische Erfassung des Denkmals im Bilde darstellt.
Le Roy zeichnet das Denkmal von der Tripodenstrasse mit vielen Staffagen im
Sinne eines piranesischen Rokoko (T af. 59 a). Er interessiert sich mehr fiir ein Ruinenbild
als fiir das Denkmal selbst. Es ist ihm jedoch gelungen Gegensatze harmonisch
zuverbinden und das antike Denkmal in seiner damaligen Umgebungwiederzugeben.
Am Anfang des 19. Jhds. wird das Monument als Bibliothek des Priors benutzt.
Ein Bild Pomardis fiir das Werk Dodwells zeigt uns das Denkmal als Studierstube
von Innerem des Klosters aus (Taf. 58β. )
Das Bild Thiimers(Taf. 60a)ist fast von demselben Standpunkt aufgenommen
wie das Bild Le Roys. Es wird vomGeist der Romantik der Deutsch-Romergeformt;
so wird das Lysikratesmonument in einen engwinkligen Stadtbezirk Romsverpflanzt.
Aus der Zeit nach der Zerstorung des Klosters muss das Aquarell Gills entstanden
sein(T af. 60β). Es folgen die Bilder Ravoisi£sim Rahmen der Exp. Scien. de
Moree (T af. 61 a) und Davidoffs (Taf. 62 a) mit dem betonten Charakter in der
Art Mantegnas. Um 1842 entstehen die AufnahmenReys(T af. 63 a)undChenavards
(T a f. 62 β), eines Malers und eines Architekten. In ihnen kann man die verschiedene
Art der Bildauffassung sowie das andersgeartete Temperament dieser Reisenden
erkennen.
Die Rekonstruktion Theophil von Hansens, bekannt durch die Stiche Biiltenmeiers,
verbindet die Rekonstruktionen von Stuart und Revett mit dem Geist
der Idealmalerei(Taf. 64a). Es folgt die erste PhotographievonNormandum 1851.
Die Bilder Bretons (Taf. 63β) und Durms endlich sind Informationsillustrazionen.
Nachdem das Lysikratesdenkmal im Abendland durch das Werk Stuarts und
Revetts bekannt wurde, entstanden einige Imitationen, die mehr oder wenigerden Charakter eines architektonischen Kuriosums aufweisen. Die Briider Trabucci
haben zuerst eine Kopie in Terrakotta angefertigt und im inneren Hof des Louvre
aufgestellt. Von diesen wurde Legrand beeinflusst und errichtete im St.-Cloud-
Park einen ahnlichen Bau als Belvedere. In Anlehnung an das Lysikratesdenkmal hat
auch Schinkel ein Belvedere im Schlosspark zu Glienike in Berlin gebaut ( T a f. 64 β).
1820 setzte C. St. Repton das Lysikratesmonument als Laterne auf die Kuppel
der St. Philippe-Kirche in London. In der Kirche St. Pancras derselben Stadt
benutzte W. und H. W. Inwood das Denkmal nebst dem «Turm der Winde» und
der Korenhalle.
Seit dem 19. Jhd. wird in Athen die Form des choregischen Monuments vielfach
verwendet: fur Hauser (Menanderstrasse) (T a f. 65 β), fur Grabdenkm&ler (Grab
der Familie Karapanos) (Taf. 64γ) und fiir Brunnen ( Metaxurgeiaplatz) (Taf.
65 a). Auch in Poros gibt es einen Brunnen in der Form des Lysikratesdenkmals
(Taf. 65γ).
